For the sake of honesty, there are cases where a wood-effect finish on PVC isn’t the most sensible choice, and it’s right to say so.

  • When you’re after real wood for its feel and authenticity. If the genuine materiality of wood is essential to you, no film fully replaces it. In that case the right comparison is between materials, not between finishes.
  • When a heritage restriction requires real wood. In protected or listed contexts, the relevant authorities may specify real wood as the material, not a decoration that imitates it. This should be checked case by case with the heritage authority (Soprintendenza) and a professional before choosing.
  • When you want a dark tone on large, full-south-facing glazing without a suitable system. It’s feasible, but it needs to be managed with the right profile and reinforcements. Forcing a very dark finish onto a system not designed for that thermal load is an unnecessary risk.
  • When you’re chasing the lowest price at any cost. The difference between a quality outdoor film and a generic decorative finish shows over the years. Saving on the finish only to watch it fade later is a false economy.
