The project
A 110 sqm fourth-floor apartment in Chiaia with a direct sea view. Eight windows were replaced with Salamander GreenEvolution 76 profiles in a white finish, Maco hardware with stainless steel components for resistance to salt air, and Pilkington Suncool selective solar glazing (solar factor g 0.33) to limit summer overheating. A measured indoor temperature reduction of 4.5°C was recorded during peak summer hours without active air conditioning.
The context
A fourth-floor, 110 sqm apartment in the Chiaia district of Naples, with an uninterrupted sea view and full southern exposure. The original aluminium windows offered no thermal break and had begun to show corrosion from the salt-laden air typical of the seafront, alongside significant solar heat gain in summer that made the living areas uncomfortable without constant air conditioning. Large glazed surfaces facing the bay meant any new specification had to balance thermal control with keeping the view as open as possible.
The technical solution
Eight windows were replaced with Salamander GreenEvolution 76 PVC profiles in a white finish, chosen for their multi-chamber thermal-break structure and resistance to coastal humidity. Hardware was specified in Maco stainless steel to withstand salt-air exposure without pitting or seizing over time. Glazing is Pilkington Suncool selective solar-control double glazing, with a solar factor g of 0.33, filtering infrared radiation while preserving visible light and the sea view. Weatherstripping and drainage details were reviewed specifically for exposure to wind-driven rain and salt spray.
The outcome
The combination of a thermally broken PVC frame and selective solar glazing measurably reduced indoor overheating during peak summer hours, easing the load on the air conditioning system, while the stainless steel hardware removes the maintenance concerns typical of coastal properties over the years ahead. As with all LMT projects in Italy, the windows were manufactured to measure and supplied ready for installation by the client's trusted fitting team, with technical data sheets provided for the coastal specification.
